Unit 3G – “A Global Balance”

This visually stunning six-foot globe serves as a major attract feature that draws visitors through the exhibits. The self-contained world reiterates the fact that the Earth is one interdependent system.

Media Treatment (MT3)

Three touchscreens with large monitors mounted above surround the globe and allow visitors to select stories that illustrate the interconnectedness of ecosystems locally, nationally and globally. Narrated film footage, culled from PBS’ critically-acclaimed “e2” series, offers dramatic real-life examples of how choices made locally can impact ecosystems on the other side of the world. Newly-produced film footage highlights a range of nuclear-related stories, including new U.S. reactors in Georgia and South Carolina, the events at Fukushima, and France’s recycling of used fuel. Content is repeated on each of the three touchscreens.

Target Audience

Best suited for intended audience:

  • School students in grades 6 through 12

Given the interactive nature of this unit and basic principles addressed, it could also appeal to a slightly younger age group with an interest in science (grades 3 through 5).
